East of Kanto Self-guided Tour 2 Days / 1 Night

Leaving Odaiba behind, you ride out of Tokyo’s futuristic waterfront and onto the spectacular overwater highway toward Umihotaru, a unique rest area floating in the middle of Tokyo Bay. After enjoying the 360-degree ocean views, you continue across the bay to the Boso Peninsula and head toward the Meiji Centennial Observation Tower. Climbing its spiral walkway reveals a sweeping panorama of the Pacific Ocean, where the endless horizon and dramatic coastline showcase the natural beauty of Japan’s eastern shores. Riding deeper into the peninsula, you pass through the atmospheric Tōrōzaka Daishi Kiridoshi Tunnel, a hand-carved rock passage surrounded by lush greenery that feels like stepping into a movie scene. You then arrive at Jigoku Nozoki on Mount Nokogiri, where you can peer over a sheer cliff into the valley below and take in breathtaking views that highlight the rugged power of Japan’s landscape.

Your day ends at Tateyama Onsen, a peaceful seaside hot spring town. Here, local seafood is a highlight—fresh sashimi platters, simmered alfonsino (kinmedai), and “namero,” a traditional minced horse mackerel dish, are among the regional specialties. Enjoying these dishes after a relaxing soak in the hot springs creates a perfect blend of comfort, flavor, and coastal atmosphere.

The next morning begins at the bright white Nojimazaki Lighthouse, standing proudly at the southernmost tip of the peninsula. Riding along the coast, you stop at Kamogawa Ocean Park, a seaside roadside station known for its local specialties. Popular souvenirs include seafood-based products from the region, as well as sweets made with Boso’s famous peanuts—especially peanut-filled monaka wafers and treats made with local sea salt. It’s an ideal place to enjoy the ocean breeze while picking up gifts to take home.

Continuing inland, you visit Otaki Castle, a charming historical site offering insight into Japan’s samurai heritage. After riding through the refreshing greenery of the Mukoyama–Kyoei Tunnel area, you return to Umihotaru and cross Tokyo Bay once more, savoring the rare sensation of riding above the sea before arriving back in Odaiba. This two-day journey is rich with ocean views, cultural landmarks, history, gourmet experiences, and unforgettable riding moments.
